What an All-Inclusive Destination Wedding Really Costs
Published 2026 package prices run from about $1,300 for a two-person ceremony to $13,900 for a 140-guest package, and the complimentary tiers are unlocked by a room block your guests pay for. Budget the package, per-guest surcharges, a venue fee, the marriage license, and outside-vendor charges on top.

The headline sounds like a gift and it is not one. Almost every all-inclusive brand in Mexico and the Caribbean advertises a free wedding, and the condition attached to it is always the same: a qualifying block of room nights. Sandals makes its Sweetheart package complimentary on a stay of seven nights or more in a Club or Butler category, with the ceremony Monday to Thursday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Secrets and Dreams unlock their Simply Perfect package at roughly six to seven paid room nights. Paradisus sets the bar at a minimum of thirty room nights. None of those is free — they are prepaid, and in the larger cases the people prepaying are your guests.
Understand that and the arithmetic of a destination wedding becomes clear. The Knot's 2025 Real Weddings Study put the average US wedding at about $33,000 for 2024 weddings, down roughly $2,000 on the year before, with the venue alone averaging $12,200; weddings with fewer than fifty guests averaged $15,000 and those with more than a hundred averaged $42,000. A resort wedding package at $3,400 looks like a rout of those numbers. It is not a like-for-like comparison, because at home you buy the venue, the catering and the bar, and at a resort your guests buy them — in the form of their own all-inclusive rooms.
So this guide prices the couple's side of the ledger honestly, line by line, from published 2026 figures: the package ladder and what each tier covers, the per-guest surcharges above it, the venue upgrades, the day-of-week and time-of-day fees, the marriage license by island, and the vendor charges that appear when you bring in anyone the resort does not employ. Then it says plainly what has been shifted onto the guest list, so you can decide whether that is a saving or a transfer. The package ladder: what the tiers actually cost in 2026
The clearest published ladder in the market is Sandals', and because it scales explicitly with the number of rooms your group books it shows the mechanism better than any brand's marketing. A Sandals-specialist agency publishes the 2026 tiers as follows: Two Lovebirds at $1,300 for a couple on a one-room, three-night minimum; the Sweetheart package at $1,000 for one to five rooms and up to ten guests, or complimentary on a seven-night-plus Club or Butler stay with a Monday-to-Thursday morning ceremony; Bliss at $2,500 for six to ten rooms and up to twenty guests, $3,400 for eleven to twenty rooms and up to forty, and $3,850 for twenty-one to twenty-five rooms and up to fifty; and Epic at $7,600 for twenty-six to thirty-five rooms and up to seventy guests, $10,120 for thirty-six to forty-nine rooms and up to ninety-eight, and $13,900 for fifty to seventy rooms and up to a hundred and forty. A vow renewal, Retie the Knot, is $400.
Read the room counts alongside the prices, because they are the real pricing variable. The package does not get more expensive because the ceremony is more elaborate; it gets more expensive because the group is bigger, and the brand prices it against the room revenue that group generates. That is the whole model, and every other brand runs a version of it.
Across the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, the Secrets and Dreams Simply Perfect package is complimentary at roughly six to seven paid room nights and covers in the region of twenty-five guests, with additional guests at roughly $10 to $20 each. Hyatt Ziva and Zilara publish an Intimate Elegance package from about $1,649 covering ten guests, with a complimentary symbolic ceremony available. Paradisus makes It Takes Two or a Few complimentary at a minimum of thirty room nights for twelve guests, with additional guests at $10, and prices its larger productions separately — Go Out With A Bang from $9,000, and an All Aboard yacht ceremony between $13,000 and $32,000 depending on the property, with additional guests at $250 each. Barcelo discounts its paid tiers by 20% for Monday-to-Thursday ceremonies, which on its published examples turns $8,000 into $6,400, $15,000 into $12,000 and $30,000 into $24,000.
Two things to take from that spread. First, the mid-market brands all converge on the same deal: about twenty to thirty guests included, trivial per-head surcharges above it, and a room-block threshold. Second, the day of the week is worth real money almost everywhere — a midweek morning is the cheapest slot in the industry because it is the slot the resort finds hardest to sell.
Who actually pays: the transfer nobody puts in the comparison
Here is the honest version of the saving. In a US wedding the couple buys the venue, the catering and the bar, and The Knot's figures put the venue alone at an average of $12,200. In an all-inclusive destination wedding the couple buys a package in the low thousands and the venue, catering and bar are paid for by the guests, in the form of their own rooms — because the room rate at an all-inclusive already contains the food and the drink. The resort is not being generous. It is selling rooms and giving away the ceremony to do it.
That transfer is defensible, and plenty of guests prefer it to a $200 gift and a hotel room in their own city. But it has consequences you should price before you send a save-the-date. Your guest list becomes a function of who can afford a week in the Caribbean, which usually means a smaller wedding than you would have at home. A room-night threshold you need in order to unlock a complimentary package puts you in the position of needing specific people to book specific rooms by a specific date, which is an uncomfortable thing to chase. And if you decide to subsidize some guests' rooms, the comparison with the national average collapses immediately — three subsidized rooms for a week can cost more than the entire package.
There is a cleaner version of the same trip, and it is worth considering seriously: the two-person ceremony. Sandals' Two Lovebirds at $1,300 on a three-night minimum, or a symbolic ceremony at one of the Mexican brands, costs less than almost any single line item in a conventional wedding, has no room-block threshold at all, and converts the whole budget into the stay itself. Our ranking of the best honeymoon resorts in Mexico and the best Caribbean honeymoon resorts are the pages to read if that is the direction you take.
Legal or symbolic: the decision that drives the paperwork and the fees
Every destination wedding is one of two things, and the brands do not always make the distinction prominent. A legal ceremony is recognized where it is performed and therefore at home; a symbolic ceremony is not, and couples who choose it typically complete the legal marriage at a courthouse before or after the trip. Symbolic is cheaper, faster and has no residency or document requirements — Sandals' own schedule prices a symbolic ceremony in Curacao at $400 against $750 for a legal one, which is the cost of the distinction in a single line.
If you want the legal version, the country decides how much work it is. Sandals publishes its marriage license and administration fees by island and the spread is wide: $250 in Jamaica, $440 in Barbados, $455 in St Lucia, $485 in St Vincent and the Grenadines, $500 in Antigua, $535 in Grenada, $600 in the Bahamas and $750 in Curacao. In the Dominican Republic a legal civil ceremony reportedly carries an $800 government surcharge, and the same $800 figure is reported at Hyatt Cap Cana, Barcelo Bavaro Palace and Paradisus Palma Real.
Mexico is the one worth the most attention, because the requirements are set by state and they change. Only a civil ceremony performed by a Juez del Registro Civil is legally binding under Mexican law, and most states require four adult witnesses with valid photo identification, plus foreign birth certificates apostilled in the issuing country and translated into Spanish by a certified translator. A prenuptial medical certificate with blood work performed in Mexico has historically been required in many states, generally within fourteen days of the ceremony, and one 2026 report says Quintana Roo, Mexico City and Jalisco have removed that requirement — we have not been able to confirm that against the civil registry, so treat it as reported rather than settled. Guidance on how early to arrive also varies, from three full business days at one resort to five working days at another. The civil judge's own fee is commonly quoted at roughly $300 to $600.
The practical rule from all of this: ask the resort's wedding office for the current written requirements for your specific property and ceremony type before you book flights, not after. Requirements are state-level and provider-level in Mexico, they move, and the one fee on this page that is purely self-inflicted is the $150 late-document charge for paperwork that arrives within thirty days of your stay.
Five questions to settle before you put down a deposit
First, which room-night threshold applies to the package you want, and who is expected to meet it. Get the number in writing, ask whether it is room nights or rooms, and work out what happens if two couples drop out. Thresholds cluster around six to seven room nights at the Hyatt brands and thirty at Paradisus, but they are set per property and per season.
Second, what the included ceremony actually looks like. Beachfront and gazebo ceremonies are included in every Sandals package, and the chapels and signature venues are not — $200 for the Frank Warren Chapel at Montego Bay, $750 for an overwater chapel or the Sky Terrace at Royal Barbados, $5,000 for the offshore island at Royal Bahamian. The same pattern holds across brands: the photograph that sold you the venue is frequently the upgrade.
Third, the day and the hour. A Monday-to-Thursday morning slot is the complimentary slot at Sandals and a 20% discount at Barcelo; Friday or Saturday adds $250, and a 5 p.m. twilight ceremony adds $600. If the date is movable, moving it is the single cheapest decision available to you.
Fourth, the vendor policy, before you hire anyone. An outside photographer typically triggers a resort fee of $500 to $1,500 on top of the photographer's own rate, and the resort's in-house photography runs $800 to $3,000 or more. Decide which route you are taking before you fall in love with a portfolio.
Fifth, the guest arithmetic. Count the guests who will stay off-property and price their day passes at $80 to $150 per person per day; count the guests above your package's included number and price them at the brand's surcharge; and then ask yourself honestly whether you intend to subsidize anyone's room, because that single answer moves the total more than every fee on this page combined. For what a week at the resort itself costs your guests, our Mexico and Jamaica cost guides give the current bands, and what all-inclusive actually includes sets out what their rate does and does not cover.
